Picasso

Don't tell me you don't know who is Picasso. If you don't even know who is Picasso, please go check out in www.google.com!

Nowadays, a lot of things around us are inspired by Picasso's work. Like daily necessities, 3D animation, advertising .... and of course "Fashion" too (haha, because I wanna talk about my fashion work which is inspired by Picasso too!)

If you know anything about Picasso, I'm sure you will know about Cubism. It is a style of painting Picasso developed along with Georges Braque (one of the great artist too) using monochrome brownish and neutral colors. I like Cubism style so much, because of the colours and how the paint expresses me. This is one of the reason that make Picasso kept venturing on in Cubism. Here are some of the Cubism's painting by Picasso.

I don't know what you fell after you see some of Picasso's paintings, but it really inspired me to creat out my designs. In 2010, I had join a fashion competition which is held in Kuala Lumpur, Pavilion called "Moda Young Designer Search and it became my inspiration to do this and that helped me to get into the final round of the competition. (sorry for not being able to show my sketches can't show my sketch, because I had lost them somewhere in my house >< )

I decided that my collection would be an illustration based on Picasso's Cubism paintings. I have also infused pleats to enhance details on my outfits and also made sure that they are versatile & wearable. I'm also using different colour fabrication  and materials to combine into one piece of garment. I remember one of my judge is Zang Toi, and I was so nervous when I needed to present my designs in front of them, especially him, but, luckily, Zang Toi quite like my designs, happy, yesh I AM !! ^^ lol !!!

Here is my designs~

How is it you might want to know? Hahaha, when I know I won 1st runner up, I had no idea the MC is calling my name and I froze in my feet for a few minutes (maybe because I was too happy couldn't believe it). After the competition, lots of writer were looking for me to have interviews for my work and ask questions about my inspiration, my age, my college bla bla bla, like a superstar, hahaha (well, just for that day only!)

After winning 1st runner up for the competition, we need to created some ready wear pieces to sell in Pavillion's 'Tangs', Kuala Lumpur. My designs also got chosen to be displayed in the shop.  In the process, I learn how hard it is to create a ready to wear pieces under budget, but luckily, everything when smoothly.

Why Fashion Design?

Fashion design? Graphic design? Fine art... bla bla bla ?!?!?!
I love everything about ART! Don't ask me why, because I can't answer this question as well. When I'm still a little boy, I started to asked my pretty mom to buy me colour pencils, drawing books or colouring books (last time, the colouring book was just around 50cents, not bloody expensive like now!), and I will keep on painting, drawing everything I can imagine or sketch out things I saw in the newspaper. I still remember what I like to draw that time ( please don't laugh when you saw this picture!).

Yeah ~  is 'Fido'!!! lol, lame right? I don't know why I fell in love drawing this?! Maybe it's because 'Fido' is easy for me to draw that time. Besides that, I will draw a birthday card to my handsome daddy and my pretty mom for their birthday. My daddy still keep it until now! I couldn't believe my daddy about keeping my drawn birthday card for him until one day he showed it to me and told me how happy he was when he received the card (because the card is in Limited Edition! lol). I will take snap shot of the card and post it into my blog (soon).

When my parents decided send me to study at Yuk Choy, Ipoh, I had made adeal with them about what course I wanted to enter after I completed my 3rd year in Junior Level (which in Yuk Choy they have 4 different courses to choose from which is 'Accounting', 'Sciences', 'Arts' & 'Automobiles') and my parents didn't opposed to my decisions.

3rd year of junior level, that year, I found out that my elder sister is going to get married and she is going to visit Carven Ong ( A famous fashion designer in town and also my principal in my fashion academy which i took up fashion courses) for her wedding gown & evening gown designs. So, I asked my sister to bring me along because I don't wish to miss the chance to visit a fashion designer's workshop.

When I first step into Carven Ong's workshop, I was so embarrass (or should I say inspired at that moment or breath-taking at that moment). Gowns, sketches, paper drafts, mannequins are all around me, and it is like I'm walking into a paradise that I've wanted! Carven Ong is a nice and humble designer, and you won't feel any arrogance when you talk to him. He is very patience in explanning to my sister what kind of designs which will  show out the prefect body shape and discussions about gown designs. Carven Ong is just like a magician, because every gowns which fit into my sister's body, it turned her into a model or a celebrity (I swear, I didn't hyperbole about my principal ).

This is Carven Ong's design and his picture!

After all the fitting and discussion is done, on the way back to hotel, I told my sister that I am going to be a famous designer like him! So my sister said this to me,
" Good, then you gonna work hard & study hard and became like Carven Ong!"

Then, he became my inspiration to be a fashion designer (until today also! never change, because most Chinese people usually says this "Even if someone is your teacher for only a day, you should regard him like your father for the rest of your life. " ). I started researching in some fashion news and read fashion magazines. And after a few years, he really became my principal!

This is why I wanna be fashion designer, how about you?

Rennee In Wonderland

I think everyone had read or watched " Alice in the Wonderland". So this is mainly a little bit of inspiration inspired from the story which will be used to inspire my photographer's team. You can check out their works at "Frame Works Production ". Actually, they are a team of freelancers and is new towards photographer positions. They always have a great theme for their works, and this is why I like to work with them, lol.

Okay, its now time for me to introduce my design!

My first design and my first fashion show is at The Garden Mall! I'm so excited during that moment (who doesn't feel happy and excited if you are a fashion student, right?!)  So, what we needed to do is to sketch out the design and also know where your inspirations came from. So, I decide to use my talent(oil painting), and one of my favorite artist of mine to be my inspiration.

Artist : Vincent van Gogh, 1889. "The Starry Night"

When Vincent van Gogh painted "The Starry Night", he had wrote about this painting.
"... it does me good to do what’s difficult. That doesn’t stop me having a tremendous need for, shall I say the word — for religion — so I go outside at night to paint the stars "

How do I know so much about this? I should thank my school, Yuk Choy, as I took up art lessons. My talents and knowledge are all learned from there and I took up courses in arts history. That is the reason why I know so much about Vincent van Gogh and his history and mainly mostly other artist and their histories.

This is the design! I know is not pretty as Vincent van Gogh's , lol, but I used only 3 weeks to finish the whole painting. I enjoyed painting on my dress as I felt like an artist doing it. After completing it, I'm was very happy that my lecturer had choosen my design to be the opening for the show! 2 or 3 different magazine had alos posted about my design, too. ^^v (opps, forget to talk about the heel,  which is one of my design, now done at that time!)

Below, are those not inspired from "The Starry Night" inspiration, but also part of my designs. lol

Jill by Gilbert

"Jill by Gilbert, this name, is a little bit weird, maybe!"
Actually, this name is given by a friend of mine who always call me Jillbird and not Gilbert. I should thank him for inspiring me to name my blog after this. I had think about tons of blog names for few weeks, lol. Well I don't really care about the name, because this is just blog about my life, my works, my foods... bla bla bla...

Okay,  lets start the blog with 'Who am I?'.

My name is Gilbert Ng and I was born in the year 1988, in the month of April, and I am not going to write which day it is as I want to keep an element of mystery there. I was born and raised in Taiping Perak (which is my hometown. A small town in Perak which lots of people call it 'Rain Town' because it rains 2 or 3 days in a week.)

(This is a part of Taiping. Taiping Lake Garden, which I think is the most famous place, lol.)

I studied Hua Lian One which is my primary school (Taiping got Hua Lian 1, 2 & 3 and I don't know why they need 3 Hua Lian(s) there.) I'm not a studying kind of person, but I do enjoy boy-ish activities with friends while waiting for classes and also during break-time. (I'm dead if my parents read this! >_<")

These pictures does not belong to me. I just got them from Google. Just wanted to show you what is the type of games I enjoy doing when I'm still in primary school.  Hahahaha, what memories!

After I graduated from my primary school, my mom had a discussion with my elder sister about the choices of school that they wanted to sent me to learn to be independent. In the end, I had to leave my hometown to Ipoh, Perak.

This is my secondary high school, Yuk Choy High School. A Chinese High School. During that time was the time I need to leave my lovely hometown and study in Ipoh and stay in the school's hostel and I was only 13 years old. Lots of people can't really imagine how I'm gonna survive when I told them about my new school life. Honestly, I'm not really fond of my school life that I am currently under ... Well, what to do? Luckily, I still get to know and made a lot of crazy and awesome friends there and successfully passed my 7 years staying at the hostel. Of course, I learned a lot of skill and things (knowledge). I think I should thank my teachers and friends, hahaha. Thank you guys!!

After I graduated from my high school, I came to KL to choose my college and course. In the end, I choose Carven Academy of Fashion to study about fashion design. At that moment, I learned what is fashion, how to draft out a skirt, shirt, pants, gown bla bla bla...of course, sewing and design too.

Between that, I started to join the fashion competition and fashion show and also having my casual work in Sungei Wang (because I'm don't wish to go back to my hostel earlier and facing my room wall =_=). Actually, I quite enjoy my KL life.

In KL, I had to move to 3 different places that is 'Kampung Pandan', 'Cheras-Cempaka, Cheras' & 'PJ, SS14'. I actually hated moving here & there, because I need to pack a lot of things and it makes me busy for the whole week ahead.

After two years and more , I finished my college life. I worked for a freelance designer and also a lecture in Carven too teaching the arts of using 'Adobe Illustrator' & 'Photoshop'. I worked for at least a year and more before I had a discussion with my family about setting up my own shop (from the beggining, I had no idea what kind business I wish to run).

Finally My baby was born.... "Weddinspired by Gilbert Ng " .

Then, I started to venture into being a gown designer and learn how to provide the best services to my customer. I like to see every customer wearing my design and it makes me feel happy on their upcoming big day (wedding day).

Coming soon will be my other baby " Gloriously High by Geofferey & Gilbert ". I started designing heels too, together with my partner. It will be launched soon, as I am waiting for my great photographer to finish editing my products' shoots before I launched my new website.

Well, this is just a little part of my blog.

Thanks for reading! Will keep it updated.
